Frequently Asked Questions:

Master Level Usui Reiki

How can Usui Reiki help?

Usui Reiki can help ease stress and tension, as well as relieve pain, anxiety and fatigue. It supports the body to help manage symptoms, reduce side effects of medications and support recovery after injuries or surgery by creating an environment conducive to healing at physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. A session is gentle, safe, pleasant and deeply relaxing. The therapy can act as a support to conventional medical care and treatment, and is suitable for people of all ages and in all circumstances as there are no known contraindications.

What are the origins of Reiki?

Usui Reiki has its origins in Japan, and can be accredited specifically to Dr Mikao Usui, a spiritual seeker and teacher who in 1922 had a deeply mystical experience that is said to have bestowed him with the ability to channel universal life force energy. While there is evidence to suggest that other forms of Reiki were being practised in Japan and other parts of Asia long before Usui’s time, it is his work – along with that of Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American Reiki pioneer who trained in Japan and later introduced it to the US – which propelled Reiki into the western world’s spotlight, making it as accessible as it is today. An Usui Reiki Practitioner can trace their lineage all the way back to Dr Usui himself.

What is a session like?

Prior to the first treatment, an in-depth initial consultation is conducted and a full medical history taken to ascertain how a client may best be helped. The client will be asked to sign a consent form, with all information stored confidentially and securely in full compliance with GDPR requirements. Each session lasts 60 to 90 minutes and always begins with a brief discussion. Only shoes need to be removed to receive Reiki, and the client will be invited to lie down facing upwards on a couch (similar to a massage table) with pillows, lumbar support and a blanket available for extra comfort. The practitioner will then channel Reiki throughout the body, usually starting at the head and then working down to the feet, focusing on the seven chakra energy centres, as well as specific areas that require special attention. Light, supportive touch is used on some parts of the body such as the head, arms and feet, while hands placed slightly above the body can be used in other areas; therefore, the client’s bodily privacy is maintained at all times. Reiki is an intelligent conscious energy and will naturally go to where it is most needed, be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Those receiving Reiki usually report a feeling of letting go of all tensions, profound relaxation and a deep sense of calm and inner peace.

How do most clients feel after treatment?

The feelings of calm and inner peace tend to linger well beyond the actual session for most people, and with this greater sense of inner harmony and balance, it generally becomes easier to tackle life's challenges. Many clients often find themselves naturally wanting to make more positive personal choices in life as Reiki will encourage and support change that serves the individual’s highest good.

How can Reiki be given remotely?

A Reiki Master has been attuned to be able to channel the Reiki energy in the most advanced way, and is equipped with the use of several symbols that offer both enhanced potency and effectiveness of treatment. One such symbol is the Distant Symbol which transcends time and space, essentially creating a bridge between practitioner and client when a face-to-face treatment is not possible or practical. This extraordinary tool therefore allows Reiki to be channelled remotely but with the client still receiving the full benefit that in-person treatment would provide. Distant Reiki is an invaluable option as it makes access to this healing therapy available to all regardless of location or mobility issues.

How many sessions are needed?

Clients will have varying needs, but even a one-off Reiki treatment can have profound benefits as this conscious, intelligent energy immediately gets to work on the areas where it is most required. Individuals who are recovering from injury or illness or who have other specific needs may find that an initial regular course of 6 to 8 once-weekly treatments will provide the most benefit. Once improvements in health have been made, the frequency of sessions can be reduced to a fortnightly or monthly maintenance session.
